Interesting and evocative experiments and images. What stands out is the great contrast between them ... and presents another challenge to you ... to formulate a third experiment that is equally different from these two. For the time being I'd suggest you do the first test on site at UNSW. This will give you some results, prove the concept and allay safety concerns. The second experiment may need presenting in a way that emphasises the layering of individual images as well as the end result. I also wonder if you could build in some computational analysis of the pixel colour/intensity values to compliment the beautiful aesthetics.
your experiment 2 reminded me of that way Richard Florida mapped out economic activity in his book 'Who's Your City?' http://www.creativeclass.com/whos_your_city/maps/#Economic_Activity_in_a_Spiky_World
on another note, i think that it would be stronger to present the process of experiment 2, like what you did in experiment 1 image. it would make everything clearer to someone looking at the experiment for the first time.
all in all, great graphics! wish i could do graphics like you.

oh, and Marketing is spelt incorrectly (in the title of the blog post and on one of the marketing images).
